1) Make sure that you have been called to write a book.
Being an author is neither glamorous nor the path to wealth. It is the awesome privilege of sharing God’s heart with people in search of revelation and solutions for their lives. The teacher becomes the student first. Every authentic author has lived and bled for the message they convey.

2) Decide why you are writing what you are writing.
It can’t just be about your story. Your story must be told for the greater good of others. His (God’s) story was written to give hope, instruction, correction and light to everyone. The Bible is more than history it is the pathway to life.

3) Write the outline for your book.
This should include Chapter titles and a brief description of what each chapter is about. Do your research.

4) Purpose to write something every day even if it is for just five minutes. Don’t set unrealistic goals for yourself. Start small and build. Once you begin writing you will go past the time you covenanted with yourself to write. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

5) Resist the urge to edit, edit edit. The only thing standing between some authors and a publishing date is the fact that they can’t stop editing. Write the book, get it out of your system! Then allow an objective professional editor to edit your work. Most publishers provide this.

6) Write your book proposal.
This should consist of an introduction to the book. Why you feel the book is needed. Who is the audience. The tonality of the book. What you hope to accomplish with the book. After that your bio. The outline of your book and one sample chapter. Do not give a publisher your entire manuscript until you have a deal!

7) Do your research on agents and publishers.
Most publishers will not look at your work without an agent these days so select one who gets your material and is as enthusiastic as ou are.

8) Never get discouraged. Never take rejection as a rejection. Remember you are in search of the right home for you and your book.

9) Remember you will be the greatest champion of your book. Have a marketing plan for how you will reach others with your message.

10) Utilize social networking to build a buzz.
